Kamala Harris

 Kamala Devi Harris is an American politician from the United States. Born on October 20, 1964, she was the 49th Vice President of the United States. She is the first vice president to be female and the highest-ranking female politician in U.S. history, as being the first African American and first Asian American vice president. Harris is a member of the Democratic Party and was previously the attorney general of California between 2011 and 2017. In addition, she served as a United States senator representing California between 2017-2021. Harris was born in Oakland. Harris received her law degree from Howard University. Her first job was in the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. Harris was later recruited to join the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003 she was elected San Francisco District Attorney. In 2010, Harris was appointed Attorney General for California. Harris was elected again in 2014. Harris was the junior United States Senate from California from 2017-2021. Harris defeated Loretta Martinez in the 2016 Senate election to become the second African American woman and first South Asian American senator to be elected to the United States Senate. As Senator, Harris was a vocal advocate for federal de-scheduling of healthcare, and legalization of cannabis which could lead to the citizenship for immigrants who are not legally documented, as well as the DREAM Act which bans assault weapons. Her pointed questioning of Trump officials in Senate hearings has garnered the attention of the nation, which included the second Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh, who was charged with sexual assault.
